Oromo Community Center Project
As demand for services has increased, our programs have had to expand, but we are left without adequate office and program space. Therefore, it is imperative that a new “Oromo Community Center” be secured. The Board has identified as one of its strategic priorities, the implementation of the “Oromo Community Center” project.
Progress So Far
The OCM has launched the project, appointed an Oromo Community Center Project Committee, revised the organizational strategic plan, and through these and other fundraising mechanisms, has raised approximately $100,000.00.
The committee has prepared a draft project document and has contacted various organizations and foundations.
The committee has also secured member contributions and pledges to reach our current building fund balance.
The committee is assessing whether to buy, lease, or build the new center. The preference would be to build a center that would accommodate the specific cultural needs of the various religions and traditions of the Oromo, but realizes that funding and real estate availability may make leasing or buying better options.
Funds Are Required to Continue
The OCM is pursuing its fundraising effort toward this important goal. The Board of Directors and staff are engaged in working with the committee and with volunteer groups. Together, they are exploring other avenues that may lead to a new Oromo Community Center.
